Review: Korean Skincare | Skin Food Black Sugar Mask Wash Off

Skin Food’s Black Sugar Mask has been one of the most popular Korean skincare products ever. So, of course, I had to try it for myself.

Skin Food is a Korean brand that provides both skincare and makeup products. But, I think, they’re more well-known for their skincare products. I have been using this brand’s moisturiser since 2011/2012, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

I think this product is the one that is most raved about in the makeup/skincare industry. I’ve seen it everywhere! It retails for about RM 45 (USD 11.25) in my local Skin Food store. But, I’ve managed to get it for half the price! So, that’s amazing πŸ™‚

Appearance:
The product comes in a plastic translucent pot, with a cute label on the top (sadly mine had a little wrinkle ☹️). It’s nothing too fancy, just a simple little design. I would say it’s minimalistic and doesn’t really have anything special to it. But, it doesn’t bother me in any way; so, it’s alright (minus points for the wrinkle on the sticker tho 😢). Moreover, it doesn’t come with a spatula or spoon, so it maybe a little unheigenic, so I would recommend using that. Personally, I used use a clean butter knife from the kitchen.

On the insides, I can honestly say it looks like a big cup of grainy poo πŸ’©. Hahaha. 😹😹 However, it smells nothing like it! The product smells absolutely amazing; you can really get a whiff of that black sugar. Yum.

Product:
Is this product worth the hype? I’ll give you the answer now: yes! Why? Well, continue reading.

If you aren’t familiar with this Black Sugar Mask, it is an exfoliator** that I think is suitable for almost any skin types. I have combination and sensitive skin, which is quite troublesome as a number of products can irritate my face easily.

**An exfoliator basically is a product to help remove dead skin and such off your face

The product when on my fingers feels thick and very grainy. When you rub it around your hand, you can definitely feel that it’s very thick and can be a little difficult to spread around. At this stage, the product is extremely rough. I wouldn’t recommend using it as is, but if you like your exfoliator to be really strong, then go for it! Plus, you don’t have to use too much product cause I’ve used as much as the picture above and it covers my entire face and also provides great exfoliation.

What’s amazing about this product is that it helps removes dead skin and impurities on your face; the difference I feel with this product is that the degree of roughness (as I would like to call it) can be altered. So, if you’re skin is a little sensitive and dry, you can make this exfoliator not as strong and change it to give you the best experience of using an exfoliator. I’ll elaborate more on how you could do that in the “how it is used” section below!

After using this product, my face feels soft and smooth like a baby’s butt. 😽😽 I use this 1-2 times a month, and I promise you, this pot could probably last you a long time; it has 100g of product in there. Plus, it doesn’t dry out my skin; more so, it actually moisturises it too. The only downfall, I would say, is that the effect of the smoothness and softness of the face would wear off about a day/two after. But, maybe that’s just how my skin works. Hmm… πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ€” Oh! And, also the fact that the packaging doesn’t come with a spatula.

I decided to use my boyfriend as a model to how the product looks on your face this post. As you can see, it makes your face look really orange as if you have a bad fake tan. Haha. 😹😹  P.S. he also liked the product!

How it is used:
So, you put some product on your fingers and run it over a small amount of water and rub it on your face starting with your cheeks. If you think it’s too rough, add more water. This is how you control the roughness of the Black Sugar Mask. Plus, if it’s not rough enough, just add more product on. Then, scrub the product all over your face in circular motion. Leave it on for about 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off.

It’s that simple to use!

Verdict: 9/10
I definitely would recommend this Black Sugar Mask to add to your skincare routine! It smells amazing and, most importantly, makes the skin smooth and soft after usage. The only downside is that the smoothness and softness don’t last too long and it doesn’t come with something for you to scoop the product.

Do you have this product? Do you like it as much as I do? What other exfoliators would you recommend? Tell me in the comments!

You look extra lovely today!

Cheers!
-Sylvia

It’s main purpose is to exfoliate! I wouldn’t recommend this if you just want something as a mask. I think I’ll be reviewing some masks soon. <:
